SEND in mainstream:
Focus question: How does a spotlight on SEND in mainstream contribute to the effectiveness of teaching for mastery in our school?
This focus theme will explore how we can effectively support teachers to implement teaching for mastery to create lessons that are inclusive by design. Teachers will look at how children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) can be supported within a mainstream setting. Research such as the EEF’s Five-a-Day will be drawn on to explore ways of making the mathematics curriculum accessible to all learners. This theme will focus how everyday maths lessons can be made as inclusive as possible rather than on specific interventions or specialist provision. Ensuring that all pupils experience high quality teaching using a teaching for mastery approach is a first priority of this theme.
The sessions will focus on:
· Reflecting on current practice
· Understanding adaptations that can be made within a lesson
· Exploring the RtP exemplification slides and consider how these can be used to plan effective interventions.
