Who can take part?

This opportunity is open to schools in England that have previously participated in a Secondary Teaching for Mastery Work Group, or that have a trained Mastery Specialist within their department.

Each school will nominate two teachers to take part. Participants should be well placed to support and lead change within their maths department.

What is involved?

Participants will work collaboratively with a small group of local schools, led by an experienced Mastery Specialist or Advocate, to embed Teaching for Mastery approaches across their department.

UNDERSTANDING Teaching for Mastery

Are you looking to develop your confidence and understanding of Teaching for Mastery in secondary mathematics?
This collaborative Work Group is ideal for teachers who are new to Teaching for Mastery, or for those who would like to deepen and refine their classroom practice.
Across the programme, you will explore the key principles that underpin Teaching for Mastery and develop a deeper understanding of the Five Big Ideas. I would say to senior leaders and headteachers whose maths departments are considering introducing teaching for mastery to go for it. When you hear the conversations students have in maths lessons, see their engagement and depth of understanding and listen to them telling you about their experiences of learning maths, you will see why it is worth it.
