Are you passionate about transforming the teaching of GCSE Maths resit and Functional Skills Qualifications (FSQs)?

Following the success of the Primary and Secondary Mastery Specialist Programmes, Maths Hubs, in partnership with the NCETM, are inviting applications from Further Education institutions to nominate lead teachers for this prestigious two-year professional development programme.

Successful participants will work towards becoming a Post-16 GCSE/FSQ Mastery Specialist, developing expertise in teaching GCSE Mathematics resit and/or Functional Skills Qualifications (FSQs).

Who can apply?

This programme is designed for practitioners who:

  • Teach post-16 GCSE Mathematics resit and/or Functional Skills Maths

  • Are employed in a post-16 setting

  • Regularly teach maths to students aged 16–19 enrolled on full-time Study Programmes under the government’s Condition of Funding policy

  • Have at least two years’ experience teaching post-16 GCSE/FSQ maths

  • Have the capacity and ambition to lead change within their institution

Applicants may be based in FE colleges, Sixth Form colleges, or other post-16 settings.

What does the programme involve?

Participants first develop and refine their own teaching for mastery approaches in GCSE resit and Functional Skills contexts. In the second year and beyond, they begin supporting colleagues to embed mastery approaches more widely.

The programme equips participants with the knowledge, skills and professional networks to develop highly effective teaching approaches rooted in the principles of teaching for mastery.

What will you gain?

By taking part, you will:

  • Support students to develop a secure and connected understanding of the mathematics they are learning

  • Increase students’ confidence in using mathematics

  • Develop classroom practice aligned with teaching for mastery principles, tailored specifically to the post-16 GCSE/FSQ sector

  • Become part of the wider Maths Hubs LLME Community

What is the cost?

The Post-16 GCSE/FSQ Mastery Specialist Programme is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme and is therefore free to participating institutions.
