Developing Core Maths Pedagogy

Who can take part?

We’re inviting experienced Core Maths teachers from schools and colleges who are in at least their second year of teaching the subject. If you take part, you’ll also be encouraged to share ideas and collaborate with colleagues in your own department.

What’s involved?

This Work Group is a chance to collaborate, experiment, and grow as a Core Maths teacher. Together, we’ll explore new teaching approaches that strengthen students’ open-ended problem-solving skills—an essential aspect of Core Maths. You’ll design and trial engaging classroom activities, then share your experiences and insights with fellow teachers in the group.

This programme is run in partnership with the Maths Hubs Network and the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP), giving you access to high-quality support and national expertise.

What will you gain?

By joining, you will:

• Help your students see the value of maths and statistics in real-life contexts

• Develop confidence in teaching mathematical concepts through meaningful, problem-solving approaches

• Deepen your understanding of the Core Maths philosophy

• Strengthen your school or college’s Core Maths provision and raise its profile with students and staff

Cost

There is no cost to schools or colleges. The Developing Core Maths Pedagogy project is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme and the AMSP.
