The BBO Hub is Recruiting for a Developing Core Maths Work Group Lead

Expectations of the Work Group Lead

The lead will be expected to :

• Attend NCETM training, where they will develop their skills to run the group alongside other more experienced leads. 
• Plan, deliver and evaluate sessions to support good teaching and learning practice with mastery pedagogy approach with other schools and colleges.
• Attend Maths Hub events alongside the other Local Leaders of Maths Education to further develop their leadership skills and understanding of mathematics pedagogy across the phases or education.
• Complete the PD Lead Accreditation either this year or next year.

What is the person specification of the Work Group Leads?

It is essential that all Work Group Leads:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills Status (QTLS). 
• Good teaching skills in maths as evidenced by internal/external/Ofsted observation.
• have NCETM PD Lead accreditation, with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the elements of effective PD (or are working towards the accreditation in 2023/24) – this can be completed during the year.
• are experienced teachers with excellent post-16 knowledge and understanding of Core Maths and maths-specific pedagogy.  A minimum of 2 years’ teaching experience in Core Maths.
• understand key curriculum documents and associated DfE and NCETM resources (e.g. Core Maths qualifications: technical guidance, at least one awarding body specification, the AMSP Core Maths offer).
• Successful track record of working effectively with other professionals within own school.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• An understanding of what constitutes effective learning in maths, and the ability and confidence to communicate this.
• Passion and enthusiasm for Core Maths.
• Employed as a teacher in a state-funded institution, either Secondary or Further Education.

It is desirable that all Work Group Leads:

• have experience of facilitating school improvement beyond their own school setting.

How will Work Group Leads be supported and developed professionally through leading this project?

Work Group Leads:

• will be part of a project-specific community that meets across the year to share, review and develop their work
• will develop their professional knowledge through engaging with tasks, sharing expertise and reflecting on the way they work within the project and the implications of this for wider work
• will develop their leadership practice through collaborating with other local leads and evaluating their work.

National workshops are designed to:

• facilitate project-specific knowledge exchange
• provide collaborative opportunities
• deepen thinking about professional knowledge and leadership practices
• develop the Work Group Leads network/engagement with the maths community.

Time Commitment :

• 3 days central NCETM training (Plus 1 day for new leads)
• 6 days planning, delivering and evaluating the work group, 3 of these days will be spent working with participants, usually a mix of whole and half days, some face to face and others on line.  The lead sets the dates of these but they have to cover the academic year and take into account when the pre-release material comes out.
• 3 days attending BBO Maths Hub LLME events including liaising with the Post 16 Lead
• 4 days completing the PD Lead Accreditation

Total of 16 days release time.

• £800 NCETM Training
• £2400 Planning, delivering and Evaluating the work group
• £600 Attending BBO LLME Events
• £800 for attending PD Lead Accreditation sessions
