Primary Mastery Specialists

Are you a passionate primary teacher with a love for maths? 

The Primary Mastery Specialist Programme is designed for experienced primary teachers with a passion for mathematics and a commitment to developing high-quality teaching through a Teaching for Mastery approach.

What is involved?

In the first year of the programme, participants attend three residential training events (one per term) where they explore the Five Big Ideas of Teaching for Mastery in depth and develop the specialist subject knowledge needed to design lessons that enable all pupils to access and understand mathematics.

Between residentials, participants apply their learning within their own classrooms and schools, reflecting with colleagues on the impact on pupils’ learning. This approach allows teachers to embed mastery principles into everyday practice while developing their expertise as leaders of mathematics.

Who can take part?

The programme is aimed at experienced primary practitioners who have the potential to lead change within their own school and support the development of mathematics teaching more widely. Participants must have the support of their headteacher, who commits to supporting the development of teaching for mastery within the school.

Cost

The Primary Mastery Specialist Programme is fully funded through the Maths Hubs Programme, meaning there is no cost to participating schools.
