Variation
Focus question: How does variation – what we keep the same, what we change – in designing a coherent learning trajectory contribute to the effectiveness of teaching for mastery in our school?
“Variation has the potential to make a difference and close the attainment gap. It can be thought of as the magic within the teaching – the element that makes learning accessible for all.” — Debbie Morgan, NCETM Director for Primary
This theme will focus on Variation, one of the Five Big Ideas of Teaching for Mastery. Participants will explore how procedural variation draws attention to key concepts, structures, and relationships, enabling teachers to identify and develop meaningful tasks.
