This Work Group is for maths leads and early career teachers intending to develop a maths specialism. We can accept a maximum of 6 schools and up to 2 delegates per school.

Te aim of this Work Group is to:

  • Consider where you are now with regards to subject knowledge and consider areas for development along with successes/barriers so far.
  • In the light of changes within the new Ofsted framework, to develop an understanding of what ‘Ofsted readiness‘ might look like within a mastery context, and how this impacts upon possible policy change, and website compliancy.
  • Have a clear overview of how to monitor, evaluate and achieve consistency of practice through accurate evaluation of the ‘state of health ‘of maths being delivered using mastery approaches.
  • Embed a Teaching for Mastery approach through building enhanced maths subject leader skills – making changes to the way in which the full range of monitoring is carried out, and understanding what specific factors to look for. Use of this information to action plan next steps for the school (CPD needs, resource purchase and management, use of textbooks/exercise books/workbooks/journals).
  • Develop understanding of effective change management.
  • To develop consistent approaches to Teaching for Mastery, through the strengthening of the maths subject leader’s role.
