Primary Mastery Open Morning, Wallingford
- Mastery Open Morning, Wallingford
18 Jun 2019
9:00 am - 11:45 am
Mastering maths means acquiring a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of the subject. At any one point in a pupil’s journey through school, achieving mastery is taken to mean acquiring a solid enough understanding of the maths that’s been taught to enable him/her move on to more advanced material.
Since mastery is what we want pupils to acquire (or go on acquiring), rather than teachers to exhibit, we use the phrase ‘teaching for mastery’ to describe the range of elements of classroom practice and school organisation that combine to give pupils the best chances of mastering mathematics.
We are offering an opportunity to observe a Maths lesson based on the Mastery Approach at Cholsey Primary School, Wallingford. Cholsey teach in mixed-age classes and our Mastery Specialist, Emma Parr will be able to give an insight on how mastery can be applied in this context.

If not, just over the bridge through the traffic lights there is our village church and there is usually plenty of space there. Alternatively there is also parking available at The Red Lion Pub in the village which is just round the corner from the school.
