Emma Patman

I was a primary school teacher for more than 15 years in Nottinghamshire and have held the post of senior leader in the latter part of my career in school. Since completing my teacher training, my interest has always been in the teaching and learning of mathematics. I completed the MaST programme and subsequently the PD Lead accreditation with the NCETM.

In the last few years, I have been fortunate enough to lead and participate in projects and events for several maths hubs but initially with East Midlands East Hub. In 2014, I visited Shanghai and took part in the England-China Exchange Programme and began my mastery journey; both developing mastery in my own classroom and having the opportunity to support colleagues in theirs. I was a Cohort 1 Primary Mastery Specialist and Teaching for Mastery Lead for the hub.

Since joining the NCETM as Assistant Director more than two years ago, I have developed and co-led many national projects related to Teaching for Mastery and have the privilege of working alongside and developing inspiring and dedicated practitioners with a passion for improving standards in mathematics for young people.
